Preparing for a Job Interview - A Last Minute Checklist

Going for an interview is just like anything else in life. You stand a better chance of reaching your goal if you prepare properly. Here is a short checklist of things to aid in preparing for a job interview.

Your attire is important. While different workplaces encourage different dress codes these days, part of preparing for a job interview is knowing what is and is not considered proper attire. If the business is more conservative, a male should wear a dark suit, white shirt and a subdued tie. A female should also choose darker clothing and keep the jewelry simple and tasteful. Both genders should be well groomed, every hair in place. Regardless of gender, the shoes should be closed and shined. Even if the dress code is relaxed, it is still a good idea to wear something that is slightly dressier than what the code requires. This indicates you considered the interview important enough to dress for it.

Preparing for a job interview also means that you are ready to present a clear concise resume and to respond to any and all question that may come your way. The range of questions may have to do with your past work experience, your ability to work with others, whether you require a high level of supervision, and how your goals have led you to understand that employment with this organization would be mutually beneficial. Be direct with your answers and do not try to embellish anything. Straightforward and honest will serve you well.

While preparing for a job interview, it is also a good idea to develop a list of questions about the company and the position you are seeking. Hopefully, you were able to get a lot of answers as you researched the organization before your application. Any remaining questions are often treated as a sign that you know your stuff and are very interested in being a part of the company - provided you do not use verbiage and a tone of voice that is meant to intimidate your interviewer. Be concise without demanding and you should get the information you seek.

Preparing for a job interview means the application of a lot of common sense, doing your homework in advance, and presenting yourself at your best. By preparing properly, you are sure to make a good impression.
