Four of the Most Common Job Interview Questions

For those of us who have worked in various positions in several fields, we know that many of the job interview questions we will be asked are universal. To help you prepare, here are a few of the most common job interview questions that you are likely to encounter.

Perhaps the most basic of all job interview questions is "why do want this job?' Whether it comes at the beginning, middle, or end o the interview, rest assured you will be asked to respond. Make sure that you understand the reasons why you want this particular position and in your mind prioritize them. This will have you prepared to respond without having to hesitate while you collect your thoughts.

You will also be asked to identify training and experience that you bring with you. Job interview questions such as this are really looking for two things; to get a better understanding on your work experiences up to that moment, and also to make sure the training you list on your resume translates into skills you can comfortably talk about. If you make a favorable impression with your response to this one, the interview is sure to continue.

Another of the more common job interview questions relates to problem solving. Your interview may give you a scenario that involves dealing with an irate coworker or perhaps a customer. The interviewer wants to ascertain your ability to think on your feet while still keeping the best interests of both the company and the customer uppermost in your mind. Coming up with a plausible solution that defuses a negative situation will certainly increase your chances of getting the job. Finally, be prepared to hear one of the oldest job interview questions ever invented. Your interviewer may look you square in the eye and ask, "If you were sitting in my place, would you hire the person sitting in your chair?" This is designed not only to check your confidence level but also to see if you are rattled by having to suddenly think in a completely different way. Return the steady gaze of your interviewer and affirm that you most certainly would. Job interview questions will always vary somewhat from one position to another. Still, if you are prepared to respond effectively to these core questions, you are well on your way to a successful interview.
